Tips For Renters

Below are some tips to help you manage a motorhome rental to ensure you have an enjoyable trip.

Treat the motorhome as if you are renting a vacation home from a friend. Take care of it and return it clean.

The owner will review the operation of the motorhome. Be sure you understand how to operate the following:

            Refrigerator
            Heater/Air Conditioner
            Water Heater
            Filling Fresh Water Tank
Using Water Connection or Water Pump
Draining Black & Gray Water Tanks
            Detectors (propane, smoke, carbon monoxide)
            Propane System
            Generator
            Leveling Jacks
            Slides

Ask Questions To Clarify Any Procedure.

During the walk through, the owner will point out any existing damages. Be sure to note any additional items that you find. This includes both damage/broken items on the outside as well as inside the motorhome.

When driving the motorhome, stay aware of your length, height, and clearance underneath. Be alert to low hanging tree branches, and low clearances on bridges and buildings, such as gas stations. Pay special attention when making right turns. You will need extra space and watch for objects you might hit when the rear end swings around.  When backing up, have someone outside to give directions.

If you will be driving in the mountains, pay attention to the engine temperature. If the engine overheats, pull off the road and let the engine cool. Manually shift to a lower gear (that also increases the RPM's) for both going uphill to prevent engine overheating and going downhill to prevent overheating the brakes.

If traffic is backing up behind you, pull off the road as soon as safe to let them pass.

Cleaning tips on returning the motorhome: Clean spills on stove, oven and refrigerator. Vacuum carpets and spot clean stains on carpet or upholstery. Clean mirrors, sinks, toilet and shower. Make sure your personal items are out of all cabinets and underneath storage. Clean all storage areas. Also wash the exterior to remove dirt and bugs.
